<\/a>Recently I met up with Sara L\u00e1zaro, a wedding photographer specialized in Vintage Weedings, originally from Granada but working all over Spain and abroad. Sara has many years of experience as a wedding photographer. Here\u2019s our conversation from the other day both in English and in Spanish.<\/p>\n\u201cWho is Sara L\u00e1zaro? \u2013 Describe yourself with one or two phrases\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n I am a photographer specialized in weddings. Some people might call my style \u201cWedding Photo Journalism\u201d. Personally, I like saying that I am telling a story about a couple on their wedding day. Qui\u00e9n es Sara L\u00e1zaro? (Una descripci\u00f3n de 1-2 lineas)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Soy una fot\u00f3grafa especializada en bodas. Mi estilo algunos lo pueden llamar fotoperiodismo de bodas. A mi personalmente me gusta decir que lo que me gusta es contar la historia de lo que pasa el d\u00eda de la boda de una pareja. <\/em><\/p>\n No creo nada artificial, tan s\u00f3lo plasmo lo que sucede ese d\u00eda y los sentimientos que se viven. Cada boda es un peque\u00f1o mundo de sensaciones e instantes y a mi me encanta congelarlos en im\u00e1genes.<\/em><\/p>\n <\/a> How come you started with photography? And how did you end up specializing yourself in wedding photography?<\/strong><\/p>\n I started with photography already as a small child. My father always use to have reflex cameras and I remember I used to get very curious watching all the buttons they had. I also loved to spend a lot of time flipping Photo Albums and thought; someday I want to be the author one of these books. And this is how I started practising with my father\u2019s camera and that\u2019s when I fell in love with the world of the light and photography.<\/p>\n I started doing weddings already as a 20-year old. I hadn\u2019t planned to specialize myself in weddings, but when I started to investigate a bit more I realised that in Spain, the wedding photos were not that artistic. Instead, the style was still very classical and a lot of posing. This was the contrary to what had always inspired me; telling a story through photos. I started benchmarking what type of wedding photography was done outside of Spain and I got it confirmed that I wanted to go the opposite direction. I got my inspiration and ideas from the United States and like this I proposed and introduced new ways of doing wedding photography in Spain.<\/p>\n \u00bfC\u00f3mo o por qu\u00e9 empezaste en el mundo de la fotograf\u00eda? Y luego la especializaci\u00f3n de fotograf\u00eda de bodas?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Empec\u00e9 con la fotograf\u00eda cuando era muy peque\u00f1ita. Mi padre siempre tuvo c\u00e1maras r\u00e9flex y a mi me maravillaban todos esos botoncitos que ten\u00edan. Entonces ve\u00eda fotograf\u00edas en libros y siempre pensaba en que yo quer\u00eda hacer esas fotograf\u00edas. As\u00ed fue como empec\u00e9 a meterle mano a las c\u00e1maras de mi padre. Y en c\u00f3mo empec\u00e9 a enamorarme del mundo de la luz. <\/em><\/p>\n Con las bodas empec\u00e9 con unos veintitantos. De manera totalmente casual. No ten\u00eda en mente dedicarme a las bodas, pero cuando vi que quer\u00eda vivir de la fotograf\u00eda y empec\u00e9 a investigar en el mundo de las bodas, me di cuenta de que entonces en Espa\u00f1a no se hac\u00edan a\u00fan cosas muy art\u00edsticas. La fotograf\u00eda tradicional de bodas en Espa\u00f1a era muy artificial y posada, no contaba historias que es lo que mi de siempre me ha motivado. Investigu\u00e9 lo que se hac\u00eda en otros pa\u00edses y ya no tuve dudas. En esos momentos EEUU fue toda una fuente de inspiraci\u00f3n para intentar hacer que la fotograf\u00eda de bodas empezara a cambiar por aqu\u00ed.<\/em><\/p>\n \n Do you have a \u201cfavourite\u201d wedding?<\/strong><\/p>\n Hmmm, I fancy any wedding that is celebrated in the open air. I enjoy spending time close to nature and the opportunity of combining it with my work is ideal to me.<\/p>\n \n \u00bfTienes alg\u00fan tipo de boda favorita?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Mmmmmm, cualquier boda que sea al aire libre me encanta. Soy una persona de estar mucho en la naturaleza y la oportunidad de realizar bodas en entornos naturales es lo ideal para mi.<\/em><\/p>\n Do you have a top three of places where you took wedding pictures?<\/strong><\/p>\n No, honestly I do not have a very clear top 3. But I have to confess that I enjoy very much the weddings that has been celebrated in old Catalan Country Houses (Mas\u00edas). Usually the weddings are smaller and more intimate and for the pictures the scenery and aesthetics are just perfect.<\/p>\n \u00bfTu lugar favorito o top-3 sitios donde has hecho fotos de novios?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n jajaja, no tengo un top tres muy claro. Pero he de reconocer que me encantan las bodas que he tenido en Mas\u00edas Catalanas. Tanto por la est\u00e9tica de los sitios como por el tipo de boda tan \u00edntima que se realizan en ellas.<\/em><\/p>\n Since summer is the top wedding season, do you have time to relax a bit as well and if you have a day off in the summer, how do you celebrate it?<\/strong><\/p>\n My busiest seasons are spring, summer and early autumn and this is the time when I basically work non-stop; editing photos, retouching photo albums, interviews with clients, \u201cpre-weddings\u201d and doing my own marketing\u2026 So my vacations start in late autumn\/winter and that is when I breathe profoundly, relax and try to travel as much as I can\u2026<\/p>\n En la \u00e9poca de verano hay muchas bodas, tendr\u00e1s tiempo de descansar alg\u00fan d\u00eda y si es as\u00ed como lo disfrutas un d\u00eda de verano de fiesta?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Mi per\u00edodo de trabajo es en la \u00e9poca de primavera, verano y comienzos del oto\u00f1o. En esos meses es cuando se concentran la mayor parte de las bodas y b\u00e1sicamente me dedico a trabar sin parar: edici\u00f3n de fotograf\u00edas, maquetaci\u00f3n de \u00e1lbumes, entrevistas con clientes, prebodas, trabajo de m\u00e1rketing, etc…. Mis vacaciones empiezan ya con el invierno y es ah\u00ed cuando respiro hondo, descanso y viajo todo lo que puedo. <\/em><\/p>\n Thank you so much Sara for sharing your story and the pictures with us. \nI do not believe in artifical posings. Instead, I try to capture the emotions that people are living that special day. In fact, every wedding itself is a small world of feelings and moments and what I simply love and do is to \u201cfreeze\u201d these moments and turn them into images.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a>
